Although Graduate Hospital’s namesake is no longer in operation, the neighborhood is vibrant and happening. In true Philly style, one name is not enough, this neighborhood also can be referred to as Southwest Center City, South of South and G-HO. It has also recently been suggested that it be changed to “Marian Anderson Village” to honor the late African American opera singer and civil rights activist who made her home in this neighborhood.
You will find beautiful nineteenth and twentieth-century rowhomes that are proudly part of this neighborhood's African American middle-class roots. Growth also abounds with new construction for single-family homes and luxury condos and it doesn’t stop there. Breweries, restaurants, small businesses, and bars populate this neighborhood, inviting folks to come in and say hi.
Being surrounded by Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square, and Center City make Graduate Hospital a (walkable!) commute’s dream. Add to that the easy access of I-76 and that many new homes have garages or lot parking and you check the boxes of must-haves for many homebuyers. South St bridge takes you into University City or stroll down South Street which runs through Grad Hospital and discover even more for restaurants, bars, and shops.
