Seven years ago, picking the house was the easy part for Becca and Stephen: fixer-upper, good bones, and exposed brick were the main items on the list. Making 532 Tasker Street a forever home, however, took some time.
Becca and Stephen's keen sense of style and impeccable attention to detail lead them through many adventures in renovating, including salvaging pine for the floors, removing 5+ layers of paint from the mantle, and recovering a bay window disguised as a closet.
Laughingly, Becca mentioned the contractors referred to the home as “the gift that keeps on giving.”
Spending countless hours searching and researching materials, fixtures, and finishes Becca and Stephen created an effortlessly cool look, mixing original charm with updated modern elements.
For nights the couple stayed in they would host their friends for board games. Speaking of friends, one of their favorite pieces of art in their home leads to one of their most cherished memories.
Becca tells the story, "When one of our closest friends came back from working in Africa he gave us our wedding present - which was 3 years old. He had put two Smirnoff Ices in boxes and wrapped them up. He ICED US! We had to take a knee, as married, home owning adults, and chug Smirnoff Ices in the middle of our living room. I loved that. I loved living so close to so many dear friends and having the space to host everyone."
Becca and Stephen were introduced by mutual friends at a happy hour in New York, where they both lived at the time. Stephen moved in with Becca and Monster and was married three years later. Life has come full circle as they are headed back to where the magic began.
However, when opportunity knocks, forever home plans change.
"Philly will be difficult to part with. We love the walkability of the city, whether it’s 35 mins to work, or 15 mins to fabric row, some of our favorite shops and haunts are here." according to Becca and Stephen.
Some of the places they will miss are Moon & Arrow, Cactus Collective, the wine list at Hungry Pigeon, and Paradigm for great art.
